Daniel Fast – Day 7 & 8
i apologize for not getting a post up yesterday or today, but the out of town trip(given to us by our church) messed that up (which was amazing by the way, thanks to all who helped with that, we were blown away by the kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity and of course, love). Well, i followed the commands of everyone and disconnected, so i did not take my laptop. i am sorry if you visited the blog only to be disappointed, but i pray for your understanding….i do want to make a simple devotional thought though about today’s reading from ….
John 8
“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” -John 8:44-NIV
If you have not already, you will be tempted to think you “NEED” food, meat, sugar, or whatever it is you are fasting from. the simple truth is this, no you dont! Don’t listen to the “father of lies”. He will lie to you and make you think you “need” whatever the item is that God has placed on your heart to fast from.
What we need is a closer walk with Jesus! As we enter week 2 of our 3 week fast, rejoice in the Lord for the journey you have been on so far, for what He has revealed to you, for your endurance in Him, and as Isaiah says, “set your face like flint”, decide to persevere, stay focused on growing closer in your personal relationship with Jesus.
If you have “caved”, so to speak, and given in to a craving, don’t listen to the enemy who would tell you that you cannot go on, or, “i might as well give up”, don’t settle for “at least i made it one week”, don’t listen to the “father of lies”, his character only lets him do one thing…lie! Focus on the truth…you can make it another day and even another week, remember what else Jesus said….
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” -John 8:32-NIV
