Daniel Fast – Day 4

Day 4 –John chapter 4

Leaving your Waterpot

Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something.”  John 4:31 (NIV)

Don’t you hate it when people say things to you and you don’t really know what they mean?  Then, you just look at them wondering what to say, but you don’t know what to say because you are not even sure how to take them or what they said.  I imagine the disciples felt this way when Jesus said…

But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”  – John 4:32 (NIV)

Jesus is the master teacher and He was very effective the way He taught His disciples, even though they, like you and me, often missed it.  I find great encouragement from the disciples, don’t you?  I know I miss it a lot as well.  I believe the reasons are because I am often just too focused on the here and now, and that is even more true when it comes to food.  Do you experience the same?  When it comes to eating are you more focused on satisfying your temporary cravings than you are considering the effects the food might have on your body and how that can impact eternity?

What if you “craved” seeing people get saved as much as you craved eating?  Many people are “starving” for someone to love them enough to put their own appetites aside and lead them to the ever flowing fountain of God’s love that fills, sustains, and overflows with life, life eternal!

The Samaritan woman left “her waterpot” at the well to go tell others, because she now had the living water within her and was satisfied!  .Who’s salvation, do you need to focus your fasting and praying on today?

“…Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” John 4:13-14 (NLT)

I need to seek refreshing from Christ. I have spoke me several friends this week who are afraid what is to come. Concern’s of the economy, family issues, and sickness. I need to be able to show Christ as a well of living water, and what is ti come is Christ.
I am enjoying the constant reminder that we are not alone in our lives(hunger).

i am praying for you Tim to receive the refreshment you desire. i believe you will find it. i will also pray that Holy Spirit will give you the words to say when you have these conversations with others…thanks for sharing…

  2. I may not be suffering enough…I am fasting from meat and sweets and practicing portion control. The last one is proving to be the hardest. However, I am enjoying this experience and I am praying hard for our church.

in time God reveals all things, no need to make yourself “suffer more”, just b/c some parts may not be that hard and others do doesnt mean it isnt working..just stay on track and in His time you will be brought to the right point..i am praying for you and am so thankful for what God is doing in all of our lives through this journey…

  3. Fours days into the Daniel Fast and it’s amazing what God is revealing (and it’s not very pretty). Just yesterday in a conversation with one of my “inner circle friends”, we talked about how the substance of many of our conversations is about food, weight and exercise. We both felt God was showing us the need to change that focus – it’s not about the external and the temporal BUT the internal and the eternal. The zeal needs to be about others and not self.

In my time with the Lord yesterday I read in Acts 12 where Peter is arrested and put in prison. Verse 5 says that “Peter was kept in prison but prayer for him was being made fervently by the church of God.” An angel appeared to him and told him to “put on his sandals and wrap your cloak around you and folllow me.” They walked out of the prison. He went to the house of Mary where the church was praying and knocked on the door. When the servant girl answered the door she ran to tell the others praying that Peter was there. They told her she was out of her mind!!! But she kept insisting it was him. When they reopened the door and saw it was him they were amazed. I have thought a lot about this passage yesteray. How amazing when the church comes together to pray – things change! God moves! I wondered as I read this though, why did they not believe that Peter was there at the door? Were they not praying expecting God to do great things?? I related this to my own prayer life – how many times do I pray but do I REALLY believe that God will move and work?? I so desire for my prayer life to be taken to another level through this fast. I so want to pray with power and watch God move! It will be exciting to see how He does – maybe Peter will show up at our door – lol
